In absentia

Sorry for the neglect, I’ve been really busy trying to do a million others things lately, and personal writing has fallen to the wayside. I’m trying to write as much as I can for my paging gigs so Jake and I will be able to do fun things this summer. He want to go to the water park, the amusement park, the regular park with the pool, and countless other places that cost a small fortune (except for the pool), and I certainly don’t have a small fortune. I don’t even have a minuscule fortune. What I do have is high rent and a car that needs its exhaust fixed, and gods know what else. June is a freaking expensive month. Between Jake’s birthday in two weeks- which requires a party, party favors, food, and presents– and car inspection time coming up, it always ends up breaking my bank. Every freaking year, they find at least $400 worth of stuff that they need to do to my car in order for it to pass inspection. I figure by this point, just about everything is new on it except the engine. I don’t understand how so much can go wrong in a year, considering I drive less than 6,000 miles total between inspections. But I’ll manage, I always do. I’ll just write into the wee hours of the night (or is it morning), trying to stay ahead.

I really am looking forward to the boy child’s birthday though. I’m going to make the cake this year, because I can’t see spending $27 for something that the kids will barely glance at before devouring anyway. How hard can it be to make a Spongebob themed cake that looks exactly like the professionals? Okay, fine, knowing me, impossible. So I’m not going for the pro look, I’m just going to wing it. I’ll use blue icing and throw some cake decorating stuff on top. Voila! I’m also thinking about making the pinata, although that sounds much more involved. I hope his friends come to this one. It’s his first year in school, so hopefully they will. When he was in preschool, no one ever came. It was depressing, and a total waste of money since I always bought enough for all the kids, just in case. This year, I’m only buying enough for the people who actually follow directions and RSVP, plus maybe one or two extras just in case.

I’m going to try to post more consistently on this blog again. I was doing goof for a while, but I got so overwhelmed with other stuff. I also really would love to carve out just a little time to actually work on a novel. I keep putting it off, and it’s never going to actually happen at this rate. So those who are still around after my absence, I appreciate it! Come back and see what sort of disaster I create out of Jake’s cake. It should be entertaining to say the least!
